Rosh Hashana Art at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center

Posted by Moshe Mikanovsky

Couple of week before Rosh Hashana, I received a phone call from Rev. Leon B. Directo, who is the Director of Spiritual Care at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge, CA. Rev. Directo found my Rosh Hashana art online while googling for Rosh Hashana art. He called to ask for my permission to use the Boy with Shofar painting on a card that the hospital will distribute during the High Holidays for all the Jewish patients who have to stay at the Hospital during that time.

I was speechless! I see it as an honour that my art will help lifting the spirits of anyone who has to stay away from their homes and families, in the hospital, for the holidays. I immediately gave Rev. Directo my permission. How couldn’t have I? My only condition (well, other than mentioning my name and contact info on the card), was that they will send me some pictures with patients receiving the card. I wanted to get some connection to the people behind this beautiful thought, and action, as well as someone who actually received it.

So here it is, some pictures I received, as well as the card itself.

And the beautiful words Rev. Directo wrote to me today:

I hope these will be helpful to you — definitely brings mitzvot for the ministry here and certainly brings refuah from Adonai to you then to patients, family, and staff! The cards are distributed during the High Holy Days and were given to patients and staff on Rosh Hashanah when Chabad came to sound the shofar in the hospital and in patient rooms.
