 Genesis 1, 24-31:

24 And G-d said: ‘Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind’ And it was so.

25 AndG-d made the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the ground after its kind; and G-d saw that it was good.

26 And G-d said: ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth’.

27 And G-d created man in His own image, in the image of G-d created He him; male and female created He them.

28 And G-d blessed them; and G-d said unto them: ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth’.

29 And G-d said: ‘Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed–to you it shall be for food;

30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is a living soul, I have given every green herb for food’ And it was so.

31 And G-d saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

This painting took me the longest time to create, and not because of the final image I chose, but due to not enough, or too many, ideas that I had. Sounds contradicting, but quite true – I was quite frustrated with the process of thinking what will work the best for depicting the creations of the sixth day. The problem I had is that on this day, the Bible says that all living creatures were created. All the animals, and then humans – the first Man, Adam, and the first Woman, Chava (Eve).

I was debating whether I should try to include body parts from several animals as well as humans, or just human. I did a lot of research for the right image that will capture my attention, and will say it in the simplest way. At the end, I found an old picture that I once saved for another project, of a couple holding hands. I loved the plain way that this image conveys the relationship between man and woman. It was enough for me.

The last touch on the design was to add a dark strip of blue, with couple of light brown rows below it, at the bottom of the composition. Although they are restricted by the grid’s lines, I wanted to show a representation of a sea shore with sandy beach. Just imaging the couple standing on the sunny beach, holding hands, looking at the horizon…

Other than the Third day, this painting was the favourite one at the show. Many people commented on it that they love it. I hope you like it too.

This painting is part of the series, which I presented at the Israeli Artists Group of Toronto 2nd Annual Art Show. It is available for sale. Price for one painting is $300 (+ tax). For all 7 paintings $1800 (+ tax). If you are interested in purchasing, please contact me. The entire series will be available soon as Giclee Prints as well. I will publish more details in the near future.

I will also show the entire series (with a new “Fourth day” painting) at the Riverdale Art Walk, aka the RAW, on June 5-6.
