7 days of creation watercolors artwork – Fourth Day

Fourth day, watercolors and ink, 10"x13", 2010
Genesis 1, 14-19:
14 And G-d said: ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years;
15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth’ And it was so.
16 And G-d made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; and the stars.
17 And G-d set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness; and G-d saw that it was good.
19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
Now this painting is very special for me, mainly because it was sold! I was surprised and pleased when I came to the opening of the Israeli Artists Group of Toronto art show, to learn that someone already bought the painting. Later on I met my new client, saw the smile on her face while she told me how much she loved it. I think it is the colorful sunset and the full moon looking at it high above that attracted her.
On the fourth day, the two great lights were created, along with the stars. The sun to light the days, and the moon to light the nights. In this painting I really wanted to show both sun and moon, and what is better than a beautiful sunset, where the moon is up high already? It might be a hard scenery to come by in real-life, but everything is possible with paints and paper.
To divide the skies from the sea, I used a dark line to suggest the horizon, and few trees with their reflection on the left hand side. I love how it makes the sun and the moon appear even larger. Such a small way to put things in perspective.
This painting is part of the series, which I presented at the Israeli Artists Group of Toronto 2nd Annual Art Show. Since it now has a new home, it is not available any longer. But, I painted another version of the Fourth Day, and this new version is available for sale. Price for one painting is $300 (+ tax). For all 7 paintings $1800 (+ tax). If you are interested in purchasing, please contact me.
I will also show the entire series (with a new “Fourth day” painting) at the Riverdale Art Walk, aka the RAW, on June 5-6.
Cheers
Moshe
